24 Hrs in Savannah

This time last year, I travelled to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a vacation with my significant other. One day we decided to do a day trip to Savannah, Georgia to check out the historic Southern city.

We chose to explore the city on foot, walking through the different neighbourhoods and visiting art galleries, cafes and parks. I especially enjoyed walking through the cobblestone streets of the historic downtown Savannah such as the Factors walk and River street which reminded me of old European towns.

One of the things Savannah is known for is its manicured parks such as the Forsyth Park that’s shaded by oak trees and covered with Spanish moss. There are grand fountains in many of the parks which add to the enchanted feel.

At the centre of this picturesque district is the landmark, Gothic-Revival Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.

As we walked around the neighbourhoods, I was inspired by the many different houses we passed and started capturing the doors which I found fascinating.

After a full day of exploring the beautiful city of Savannah, we built up an appetite and decided to get dinner at a pizzeria on River Street. The historic district was buzzing with people and the sound of live music played by an old saxophone player. We had a great view of the Savanah river and the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. After we finished our meal, we made our way back to our car, passing by a lower class apartment building and a bus station which were illuminated by the sunset glow.

Until next time, Savannah!
